DESAM executives remanded

All the 16 executives of DESAM, who were arrested yesterday by the police after taking up a suo moto case against them regarding the brutal thrashing of a teacher of St Joseph's School, have been produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West and remanded to police custody till June 23 today.
Large number of students, family members and DESAM volunteers who gathered outside Cheirap Court complex shouted slogans demanding their release when they were brought by a police team led by Imphal police station OC AK Shantikumar.
They appeared before the Court under FIR No 243 (6) 2015 of Imphal police station under Section 341/342/326/506 and 34 IPC.
Investigating Officer (IO) of the case pleaded the Court to grant police custody remand of the arrested students for nine days.
Talking to this reporter, a student questioned why the police have not taken up any case against the teacher of St Joseph's School although a suo moto case has already been taken up against the DESAM executives.
The arrested student leaders include DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba (31) s/o (L) Saratchandra of Nongada Makha Leikai, vice-president Arambam Thoithoi (33) s/o Biren of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and secretary general Pukhrambam Premchandra (32) s/o Binodkumar of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai.
