Imphal, April 13 2015 : The All Manipur VDF Welfare Association has called a 24 hour State-wide general strike with effect from April 14 midnight.

If the general strike fails to elicit a positive response from the State Government, a 48 hour economic blockade would be imposed on all National Highways passing through the State starting from April 15 midnight.

Medical service, religious activities, media and other emergency services would be exempted from the purview of the general strike, said a press release issued by the association.

If any untoward incident breaks out 'in the course of the general strike, the State Government should be held accountable.

Earlier on March 20, the All Manipur VDF Welfare Association undertook an arms down strike demanding pay hike and conversion of VDF as a regular force.

Meanwhile, the All Manipur VDF Guardian Association has pledged support to the 24 hour general strike and the proposed 48 hour economic blockade.
