Chief Justice visits relief camps in Kangpokpi district

Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Siddharth Mridul visited three relief camps in Kangpokpi district and interacted with the internally displaced persons (IDPs) on Thursday.
The Chief Justice visited relief camps set up at L Lhangnomphai, Motbung High School, and Dam-dei Taloulong and provided relief materials including sports items to the residents and also distributed sweets to the displaced children.
During the visit, Siddharth Mridul was accompanied by Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Manipur State Legal Services Authority member secretary Alek Muivah, joint registrar Subham Vashist, deputy registrar Hillson Angam, district & sessions judge Senapati Letkho Kipgen, judicial magistrate first class Kangpokpi Robert Lhungdim, District Legal Services Authority, Senapati secretary Kimneingah Kipgen, bar members of All Tribal Lawyers Association (ATLAM), Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.
Interacting with the media, Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul said, "To familiarise ourselves with the problems that are being faced by the displaced people in the relief camps and to supplement the efforts being made by the government in providing them with relief, their needs and requirements, are our main purposes for visiting the relief camps".
"Principally, we understand every displaced person wants to go home, and in the meantime they want livelihoods, there are also financial problems in paying their children's tuition fees in private schools, while there also some issues related to the needs of young children and elderly people in the relief camps," noted the Chief Justice.
"Whatever we can do from our own sources, we are looking into it with the help of the Bar and voluntary contribution by members of the Bar, not only from Manipur but also from outside," he continued.
"So far, we have not been able to visit all the relief camps which we would like to do but we are trying to reach as many displaced people as we can," he added.
The Chief Justice was seen patiently interacting with displaced persons at L Lhangnomphai relief camp amid heavy downpour, a gesture appreciated by the residents.
Kangpokpi SP Manoj Prabhakar presented a Thadou-Kuki traditional shawl to the Chief Justice while welcoming him at L Lhangnomphai relief camp, while ADC Kangpokpi, SDOs, and nodal officers concerned were also present during the visit to the three relief camps.
