Imphal, April 13 2015 :
Asserting that Khousabung DCC headquarters presents the most suitable location for the newly created Thangting subdivision of CCpur district, public of the area have appealed to the Chief Minister to declare the same and expedite its inauguration or else face democratic agitation.
"100 village chiefs out of the 125 villages covered by Thangting subdivision have endorsed and given their consent and approval to the move to locate the Thangting subdivisional headquarters at Khousabung village," L Achung Kom, vice-chairman of Thangting Area Chiefs' Association (TACA)-I said while addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club today.
Close on the heels of submitting a representation to the Dy CM, the Thangting Area Chiefs' Association I&II, Leimata Area Chiefs' Association (LACA) and Kom Keirap TD Block Demand Committee (KKTDDC) have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today conveying the democratic voice of the people and the demand to declare Khousabung as the headquarters of Thangting subdivision.
Claiming to represent the mandate of the people as well as TACA-I&II, LACA and KKTDC, Achung Kom said that Khousabung is the most centrally located place that suits the need of a sub-divisional headquarters.
Any move to defy or disregard the public voice in this connection would amount to distortion of natural justice, Achung asserted.
"And we are ready to launch various democratic forms of agitation if the Govt disregards our demand," he warned.
He also hailed the wisdom of the Govt in creating five subdivisions in the State including Thangting as per a Cabinet decision and a subsequent Gazette notification with the good intention to bring people of remote areas closer to the administration.
Achung further reasoned that the good intention of the Govt cannot be translated into action if public voice is sidelined in deciding the location for the subdivisional headquarters.
The proposed Thangting subdivision covers 125 villages inhabited by eight tribal communities such as Aimol, Chiru, Chothe, Gangte, Kom, Rongmei, Thadou and Vaiphei.
