Imphal, February 22 2024:
Detonation of four bombs detected by security forces created panic in Moreh town on Thursday.
The bombs were found by security forces in Moreh Ward No 9 and Monom Veng, and detonated safely in between 12.15 pm to 2.57 pm.
People in the border town got panic on hearing the explosions but later realised that they were detonated by bomb experts of 5 Assam Rifles.
Mention may be made that state security forces in Moreh had been on the target of Kuki militants.
There have been multiple attacks in January alone and the attack intensified after the arrest of two prime suspects of the assassination of SDPO Ch Anand.
On January 17, two Commando (CDO) personnel were killed and many others injured in attacks by Kuki militants in Moreh.
Reports suggest that the militants employed a range of weapons, including RPGs, incendiary munitions, illuminating mortars, and snipers in the brazen assault.
The border town of Moreh has been witnessing persistent attacks for several months, contributing to an atmosphere of heightened insecurity.
As of now, the border town is witnessing an uneasy peace with no fresh violence.
After the assassination of SDPO Moreh Ch Anandkumar on October 31 by Kuki militants, state security forces intensified their operation to nab the perpetrators.
The Kuki militants did not back down and they also intensified their attack on state force resulting in fierce gun battles.
Consequently, the government imposed curfew to control the situation resulting in grinding halt of trade activities.
Recently, Kuki bodies served a shutdown notice to all shop owners while cautioning them against supplying goods and water to state forces, which only worsen their situation.
Left with no means for survival, all Bihari residents of the town have already left.
People of other communities have also started leaving the border town gradually in the last 10 to 20 days on the pretext of getting medical treatment and other reasons.
As of now, they are not facing any threat as state security forces are providing protection.
However, they are not sure about their fate with the rising activities of Kuki militants in the town, they said while drawing attention of the government to take up necessary steps to protect the border town.
