Imphal, September 24 2023:
The Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCP) has warned that they will launch stern agitations if the 'village volunteer' who was arrested by NIA shortly after a he was granted bail is not released at the earliest.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, KIKJCCP convener L Mema said that village volunteers have been playing the key role in protecting Meetei villages from the onslaught of Kuki militants since the initial stage of the conflict.
Saying that they condemn the re-arrest of one village volunteer shortly after he was granted bail on September 22, Mema asked why the Government is not arresting the Kukis who have been causing trouble in the State.
She urged the Government to release the 'village volunteer' who had been arrested by the NIA.
Why is the Government not arresting the husbands of two Kuki MLAs who allegedly are leaders of Kuki militant groups, she asked.
Co-convenor of the Committee Yumnam Ibeyaima said that the Chief Minister asking the people to surrender weapons within 15 days is confusing and unacceptable as there is no respite in gun attacks from Kuki militants.
It is the village volunteers who have been protecting the Meeteis and their villages from the Kuki militants with no help from Central security forces whatsoever, she said and asked if any of the MLAs and Ministers from the valley districts or their family members understand the gravity of the situation at foothill areas and periphery of the valley districts.
It is the common people who have been suffering since the onset of the violence, she added.
