Imphal, February 22 2024:
Along with adopting resolution to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state and abrogation of the SoO agreement signed with the Kuki militants, the state assembly should collectively resolve to press the centre for saving Manipur, demanded Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) ahead of the ensuing assembly session.
Addressing media persons at its Lamphelpat office, here, on Wednesday, COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro said that the state assembly session commending from February 28 should adopt resolution to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) which COCOMI and United Naga Council (UNC) have been demanding for a long time.
After adopting the resolution by the state assembly, the state government should press the central government for the same.
Implementation of NRC does not mean that all the Kukis will be deported from Manipur but to only identify the illegal immigrants coming from Myanmar and other neighbouring countries, if any, he clarified.
The coordinator pointed out that without firing a single bullet against the security forces, Kuki militants signed the SoO agreement with the government consequently creating huge problems and issues in the state of late.
The Kuki militants under the SoO pact have been violating the ground rules and attacking innocent people.
In spite of all these illegal activities, the government of India is remaining silent and watching silently, he alleged.
While opining that the recent pledge by the elected representatives of the people at the sacred Kangla Fort to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur will remain in history forever, he stressed that the Kangla pledge should be upheld by adopting resolution on upholding integrity of Manipur in the assembly as well.
The COCOMI coordinator also contended that the state government has failed to take actions against miscreants involved in destroying and torching offices of the Churachandpur SP and DC.
Further noting that ITLF had gone to the extent of warning the Churachandpur SP and DC to leave the district, Somorendro asked the government to demonstrate that there is rule of law in the state.
