Imphal, May 02 2014 :
Large number of people confronted the police since last evening at Loitang Khunou area near Manipur Spinning Mill (now defunct) following speculations that two cadres of United Revolutionary Front (URF) which is under the agreement of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Government have been murdered and buried within the premises of the designated camp housing the cadres.
However, URF said otherwise.
Two cadres of URF identified as Irengbam Bode alias Washington, 35 years, s/o late Biren of Awang Khunou Maning Leikai, Imphal West district and Pukhrambam Somorjit, also 35 years, s/o P Lakhsman of Yoiheng Khuman, under Nambol police station of Bishnupur district, have been reported missing from the outfit's designated camp at Loitang Khunou under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district since March 18 .
Meanwhile, infuriated mob of about 500 people, mostly women folk attempted several times since yesterday to storm the URF designated camp to conduct a search operation.
The designated camp of URF is located within the campus of 9th Dogra Regiment D-Coy at Loitang Khunou.
It so happened that some elements reportedly sent messages to Sobita, wife of URF cadre Irengbam Bode that her husband had been murdered and the body buried in the campus of the URF designated camp.
Prompted by these messages, the locals attempted to storm the URF camp.
But the arrival of Imphal West Additional Superintendent of Police (operations) Meghachandra and others managed to calm the volatile situation.
Later, talking to the media, URF Home Secretary P Ruhini said the two cadres went missing since March 18 and the following day the outfit had lodged an FIR (missing report) with Sekmai police station.
The URF leader said the outfit has been trying its best to find the two missing cadres since then.
In such a situation the behaviour of the people influenced by certain elements who are against the URF is uncalled for, expressed P Ruhini.
He also said that the truth will prevail one day.
URF chairman Lanheiba Meitei, who is out of station at the moment, told the media over phone that there are certain elements against peace.
"We are engaging in peace talks with the government to address the Manipur problem but today's incident where the mob turning against the URF is unfortunate," stated Lanheiba Meitei.
