Imphal, May 02 2014 :
A skirmish broke out between coaches and IRB personnel manning the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Friday as an order issued by Youth Affairs Sports Department to bar vehicles from entering the sports complex came into effect.
All coaches of different disciplines and sportspersons arrived at the main gate of the sports complex in the morning as usual, but the personnel of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) manning the gate prevented them from entering the complex.
A hot argument then ensued between the two sides.
Afterwards, the Director of Youth Affairs & Sports Department came to intervene.
Upset over the order that bars entering of vehicles including that of coaches and sportspersons into the complex, the coaches met the Director at his office around 11 am.
At the meeting the Director clarified to the coaches that although the latest order prevents vehicles from entering the complex, it allows all persons to enter only if they park their vehicles behind the main gate.
Reacting to the order, some coaches told Hueiyen Lanpao that the Director should allow coaches and sportspersons to enter the stadium at least for two hours every day from 6 am to 8 am.
They said that the Director should try to understand the fact that young sportspersons who are undergoing training at the complex cannot waste their time by going on foot because they will have to go to school after practice.
They also pointed out that locals residing around the stadium are now cultivating vegetables inside the sports complex although the order says that no trespassing would be allowed by private individuals.
