Imphal, November 06 2023:
Giving a new impetus to the popular demand for enlistment of Meetei/Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe category, the Meitei/Meetei Tribe Union (MTU) launched a poster campaign today.
JNIMS Director Prof Laishram Deben flagged off the poster campaign at a function held at the administrative block of JNIMS this afternoon.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof L Deben said that ST status is a legitimate right of Meitei/Meetei community.
He said that all the Meitei/Meetei people need to work together in order to get ST status.
Remarking that the MTU's poster campaign is a timely step in the right direction, Prof Deben appealed to all the people to support the campaign.

MTU secretary (administration) Mutum Churamani said that the poster campaign launched today would be followed by a "Mass Missed Call Campaign" from November 20 to December 20 .
He then appealed to all the people to support the campaign by giving missed calls to the mobile number 8732042511 which is printed on the posters.
Saying that more than five lakh people would take part in the campaign, Churamani called upon all the Meitei people to put in concerted efforts so that Meitei/Meetei is given their legitimate right of being a ST community this time.
JNIMS Medical Superintendent Prof Kh Lokeshwar was also present at the function.
Notably, several organisations including the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM), the World Meetei Council (WMC) and the Kangleipak Kanba Lup have been working since a long time back to enlist Meitei/Meetei in the ST category but their movement has been slowed down by the ongoing violence.
