Book release and prize distribution function held in Tripura

Imphal, January 24 2021: A book release and annual prize distribution programme of Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura was held at Agartala today.

The programme was attended by Prof Ganga Prasad, Vice Chancellor, Tripura Central University; prominent Manipuri author Sarat Lairenlakpam; Wangkhem Birmangol, Tripuri scholar and poet N Praful Bijay as presidium members, said a statement issued by the forum.

A two minute silence was observed in honour of prominent literary personalities who passed away in 2020 and the lives claimed by COVID-19, added the statement.

Prof Ganga Prasad released the second edition of the book titled 'Singlida Meehul Chongdre' written by Tripuri writer Khoisnam Manggal Meitei and published by Ashangbam Communication, Manipur, added the statement.

'Lamyanba Sahitya Pujari Lifetime Achievement Award' was presented to poet Nongshatabam Niranjan while 'Babure Taramani Memorial National Award, 2020' was presented to social activist and author Longjam Somorendro for his selfless contribution towards development of Manipuri literature outside the State of Manipur, the statement said.

Prof Ganga Prasad said it is exemplary that the minority Manipuri community in Tripura is able to observe such literary programmes and assured that he will work towards the betterment of Manipuri literature and dance in Tripura Central University during his tenure as VC, added the statement.

32 Manipuri and Tripuri poets read out their poems at the function.
