One-day training programme for farmers held at Ukhrul, Tengnoupal

A one-day training programme on 'Pest & disease management and book keeping & group management' was conducted for farmers registered under Ihao Farmers Producer Company (Ltd) at Singda and Alang village of Kamjong district under Phungyar block.
The training programme was organised by Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS), Imphal in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra ( KVK), Ukhrul with the support of Manipur Organic Mission Agency under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) Phase-III.
Speaking as the main resource person of the training programme, Dr PA Ramsem, Subject Matter Specialist of Soil science, KVK, Ukhrul educated the farmers on prevention of diseases and ways to protect crops from attack of pests.
He further stressed on proper soil management to increase farm production and sensitized them on control measures of pests and diseases affecting turmeric, which is their progressive crop.
In a separate training programme held at Alang village for the Farmers Interested Group (FIG) leaders, resource person P Honpam and Leishingam Luikham, Field Staff of DSSS, Ukhrul imparted training on basic account management including book keeping, account management and maintenance of cash book, ledger, attendance book, saving & contribution register book for fair and transparent running of the office of their respective FIG.
Over 72 persons from four cluster villages of Alang, Riha, Singda and Lungphu under Ihao FPC Kamjong district participated in the training programme.
Separately, Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) also organised a one-day training programme on "Pest and disease management" at Leibi village under Tengnoupal district under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) Phase-III, supported by Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, Govt of Manipur.
K Anthony Maring, Field Inspector DSSS, Tengnoupal, spoke and gave notes on plant disease management practices in organic farming specially ginger and turmeric crops.
Weeding of farms regularly will also help the plant to grow healthily, he said.
Altogether, 38 farmers participated in the training programme.
In this connection, the Leibi village organic farmers have thanked the DSSS and MOMA for launching different training programmes which have been very beneficial to the farmers.
