RIMS reopens Intensive Treatment Unit ward

Imphal, February 22 2024: Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal reopened the Medical Intensive treatment Unit (ITU) ward today at the Department of Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.

The reopening programme was attended by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director RIMS, Imphal; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; all the HODs, faculties, staff and nursing officials of RIMS, Imphal, said a release issued by RIMS Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar stated that with the increase of ICU beds to 34 numbers, medical facilities especially to critical care have been enhanced in the hospital.

"The ICU facilities will be available at very low cost @ Rs 300 to Rs 400 so that it can be affordable to poor patients", said Prof G Sunil while highlighting the possibility to reduce the price further upto Rs 50 with prior permission from the Ministry.

"RIMS also has an intention to provide maximum free of cost medicines, free investigation with best modern facilities and ready to procure the latest equipment and medicines to serve the people.

As causality is the first contact with patients, doctors will be advised to prescribe generic medicine names instead of commercial so that RIMS can provide the drug to needy people coming for causality", he asserted.

Prof N Sanjib said that the installation of 34 ICU beds is a commendable achievement as there were only 12 ICU beds in the hospital two years back.

He continued that the initiative will be beneficial to the poor patients who are unable to afford the cost of medical care at private hospitals.

The Medical Superintendent further congratulated all the faculty members who took active part in running the 22 bedded ICU first and again took responsibility to reopen the ITU ward.
