Workshop on traditional games begins

A five-day workshop on traditional games of the Kom tribe of Manipur was inaugurated today at Khoirentak Khuman village in Churachandpur district.
Organised jointly by the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) and Kom Cultural Dance and Research Centre, Khoirentak Khuman, the inaugural function of the workshop was graced by Y Gyaneshwar, Director, Tribal Museum and Research Centre, Imphal; Dr Manilei Serto, Asst Prof, DMCA and Salam Rajesh, Journalist and N Shakmacha Singh, Museum Associate of IGRMS as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Y Gyaneshwar said that there are myriad indigenous games in the State.
Some of these games are displayed during festivals down the year.
It is very fortunate for the Kom tribe that their games would be documented and preserved by the IGRMS.
Manilei Serto stressed the need to organise such workshop in every Kom village and settlement.
Presentation of the Khorvom Lam marked the inaugural function of the workshop.
A traditional game known as Kangkap was also displayed by womenfolk of the village.
