An independent candidate for the forthcoming Lilong Nagar Panchayat election has been reportedly pulled up by a team of State police force even as security forces have apprehended one activist each of the PLA, KCP and PREPAK outfits from different places.
The Lilong Nagar Panchayat election candidate namely Seram Sanatomba (45) s/o S Khelendro of Karam Makha Leikai was taken into custody by a joint team of Imphal West police commando and personnel of Mayang Imphal police station from his own residence soon after the flag hoisting ceremony at around 10.30 am today.
Claiming that Sanatomba is an innocent individual a group of local women folk submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to look into the matter.
Speaking to newspersons after submission of the memorandum, a woman complainant said Sanatomba was picked up from home with the police team insisting that the Superintendent of Police wanted to have a talk.
While demanding release of Sanatomba at the earliest, the women delegation also informed about arrest of two workers of the candidate namely Wangkham Jadu (62) of Karam Awang Leikai and Paonam Budha (60) of Karam Makha Leikai, on December 20 evening on charges of having nexus with the banned KCP (MC) .
Meanwhile, SP (IE) Th Radheshyam Singh has claimed arrest of a PLA cadre by the district police commandos from Khurai Thangjam Leikai at around 8 am yesterday.
Identifying the arrested person as Yaithengbam Inao alias Yaiphaba (35) s/o Y Yaima of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, who reportedly joined the armed outfit in May 2010, the SP said that Inao has disclosed of working in a frontal organisation of the PLA along with eight functionaries and former office bearers of six NGOs of Imphal East district.
The NGOs listed by the SP in a statement include IEUCO, SUCO, NIUCAMO, NEUCO, SEUCO, and PALEM.
On verification, they disclosed that they were recieving monthly funds from PLA/RPF through Inao alias Yaiphaba, the SP added.
Imphal East police commandos have also arrested a KCP cadre namely Khangembam Johny alias Malemnganba (20) s/o Kh Joy singh of Pungdongbam Uyung Makhong from the same locality on December 23 at around 11.30 am.
One US-made 9 mm pistol with two live rounds and a magazine have been listed as items recovered from Johny, who disclosed to have joined the KCP outfit in September 2010 through one Amuba of Sekta.
One the otherhand, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector have apprehended a PREPAK cadre while he was travelling in a Maruti van (MN01W/1805) along the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-39 .
The individual identified as Abujam Kanak Kumar Singh (29) s/o A Noresh Singh of Yumnam Huidrom was arrested at around 12.30 pm of december 23, informed a PRO (IGAR (S) release adding that he has been handed over to Imphal West police station.
