Imphal, May 18 2010: State government today ordered magisterial Enquiry into the May 6 incident at Mao gate in which two persons were killed and several other injured.

The district magistrate also called statements to submit on or before May 31 .

The enquiry will be done by the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district Nidhi Kesarwani who is also district magistrate, the order issued on Monday said giving the term of references as to find out the facts and circumstances leading to the incident among others.

The government order stated that Nidhi Kesharwani, district magistrate, Senapati district to conduct a magisterial enquiry into the incident which took place at Mao Gate, Senapati district on May 6 last in which two persons namely Loshua Mao (200 son of Daikho Mao of Jakhama, Kalinamai village and Chakho Mao (20) son of Neli of same village with the former were killed and several others injured.

Analysis based on the facts and circumstances, findings based on the facts and circumstances and analysis thereof and recommendations to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future were the other terms of the magisterial enquiry.

Following the order of the government, the district magistrate, Nidhi Kesarwani has also invited from party (ies) and also from those who have knowledge relating to the incident and the facts and circumstances leading to the killing of two persons and several other injured, their statement of the facts supported by affidavits and documents relevant to the enquiry and submit the same in person or otherwise to reach the magistrate on or before May 31 .

Mention may be made that amidst the allegation to the police and security forces deployed at Mao gate to prevent entering of NSCN (IM) general secretary, Th Muivah for its excessive meted out to the protestors storming the Mao gate, police in its case report had stated that three weapons, one AK-47 and two tear gas guns were snatched away by the protestors apart for badly injured to two police personnel of Mao police station.

The brief of the case registered under section 148/149/307/35/353/384/188/427/34 of IPC stated that around 3000 men and women gathered at Mao gate and Mao Island unlawfully defying the prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC.

The mob suddenly started running towards the Mao gate and stoned the police station without caring for the life and property of the police station and policemen manning the station, despite repeated warning to stop, the case report of the Officer in-Charge of the PS, Inspector S Lokhio stated.

Apart from pelting stones, they also carried deadly weapons and started destroying police vehicles parked at the station.

In the melee, protesters snatched away an AK-47 rifle along with three magazines and two tear gas guns.

In the violent activities of the mob, two police personnel were seriously injured.

A police vehicle (MN01-1087 MT/IW) and rations of the MR personnel were burnt down by the mob during the melee which prompted the police and MR personnel to fire tear gas shells and use of other mob dispersion devices.

All the bedding materials and rations were burnt down before the police and security forces could put the mob under control.

Later, two of the youths in the mob that burnt down bedding materials, were found dead, the case report stated.
