Imphal, May 02 2014 :
Irregular power supply has been causing severe inconveniences to both customers and vendors of all the three Ima Keithels of Khwairamband market.
With electricity unavailable most of the time, the vendors wrap up their merchandise before dusk while some others use electronic/LED lamps.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, some vendors said that the interior of the market complexes do not get enough sunlight and it looks dark during day time too if there is no electricity.
Electric light is needed both during day time and night.
This was not the case earlier.
There was no need of electric light during day time at the old market complexes which were dismantled and replaced by the existing ones.
As the interior of the market complexes always remain gloomy, customers don't feel like coming inside and buy goods.
At the same time, goods sold in the markets are not seen clearly.

Most of the vendors call it a day at 4/5 pm during summer at 3 pm during winter if there is no power supply, they said.
Since the past couple of days, power supply was totally cut off because the transformer connected to the market's main power lines broke down.
"Now it is like selling goods under ground," said one vendor.
All the appeals to provide regular power supply and prompt repairing of transformers and power lines in case they get break down went to deaf ears.
Neither the Government nor Imphal Municipal Council is paying any attention.
Yet, annual tax is increasing.
Earlier, a licensed vendor used to pay annual tax of Rs 15 but it has now been raised to 90 .
As the changing time demands, the vendors have no grudge against the multifold increase in tax rate but the authority should regular power supply as well as potable water.
Excepting such cases like fused transformer, the vendors have to pay for repairing power connection when it got disconnected or the bulbs did not work, they added.
