37th National Games : Lifter Ranibala breaks Mirabai's snatch record, earns Manipur's first gold medal

Four State gymnasts qualify for finals
Lifter Phandom Ranibala has opened Manipur gold medal account at the 37th National Games hosted by Goa a day before its formal inauguration with a second to none performance in the women's weightlifting competition.
Phandom Ranibala, representing Manipur in the 55kg category managed 90 kg in snatch to break Mirabai's record of 86 kg and recorded 106 kg in clean and jerk to secure the top honour in the competition at Campal Open Ground in Panjim.

West Bengal's Shrabani Das also recorded 106 kg in snatch but was 9 kg less than Ranibala in snatch competition and thus settled for the silver medal.
Sneha Soren of Odisha posted the highest 80 kg in snatch and 106 kg in clean and jerk to amass 186 kg, just a kg behind Shrabani Das, to bag the bronze medal.
Gymnasts qualify finals
Manipur gymnasts also had an impressive run at the Goa Games with three gymnasts making it to the final round of the individual aerobics and mixed pair events at Peddem Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Mapusa, North Goa.
Manipur Ariha Pangambam secured an impressive 17.80 in the women's individual aerobics qualification round finishing on top of competitors from West Bengal and Gujarat to seal the final round berth.
Meanwhile the mixed pair of Chabungbam Leishilembi and Okram Umajit sealed the final round berth by securing 14.95 points to finish fourth in the qualifying round.
The finals are slated for October 27 .
Expressing satisfaction over the performances of the young gymnasts, team coach Yanglem Bony said that the final will be very competitive.
"Our gymnasts are determined and spirited.
I am hopeful that the gymnasts will perform their best and add medals to the State's tally," Bony said.
Earlier, Ruban Sanasam had qualified for the vaulting table and floor exercise final.
"All eyes are now on the floor of the Peddem Sports Complex on October 27 .
The arrangements at the Goa National Games are of high standard and our gymnasts will undoubtedly benefit as an experience to set future targets,", the coach added.
