Imphal, February 27 2013:
The Zillai (Vaiphei students' association) has decried the monetary demand served on Khuplianthang Vaiphei, chief of Lingshiphai village, CCpur district allegedly by the so called 'Zomi Football Club' in connivance with the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) .
The subsequent threat and intimidation through phone calls and SMSes ultimately resulted in the manhandling and assault of the innocent chief's wife at Lingshiphai by miscreants led by ZRA cadres on the night of February 24.The perpetrators had also damaged the front door of the chief's house, said a statement jointly signed by representatives of ZILLAI headquarters, Eastern Block, Imphal Block, Kangvai Block and CCpur block.
The statement pointed out that the miscreants had used derogatory and abusive words demeaning the Vaiphei community, besides unleashing the act of insult and atrocity, which is highly deplorable.
It added that the act would beget more harm than good in the long run.
Condemning the incident, the Zillai appealed all concerned organisations/authorities to take immediate appropriate action within five days while also warning that it would start its own course of action if the authorities concerned failed to act.
