Training programme held

A one-day training programme on Management and Development of Loktak Lake Convergence Scheme 2010-11 was held today at the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation at Sanjenthong here.
The training programme was organised by the Department of Horticulture under the sponsorship of Soil Conservation Division Office, Mantripukhri.
Giving key-note address of the programme, scheme in-charge Th Nimaichand said that two programmes are being taken up under the same scheme.
One scheme is about settled agriculture and the other about livelihood improvement.
The settled agriculture programme is aimed at developing foothills and other non-arable lands into cultivable
lands.
Under livelihood improvement scheme, youth would be trained to cultivate mushroom so that they can earn money within 60 days.
The scheme is being taken up with the State Development Fund, Nimaichand said.
He also spoke in length on Construction and Management of B/T, D/C at Slopeland Areas and Cultivation Practices of Some Vegetable crops for the Control of Fertility and Erosion.
APPO Y Dorendro spoke on Cultivation Practices of Different Varieties of Mushroom and Its benefits.
Later, tools and equipment for mushroom cultivation were distributed to eight individuals.
The trainees were also taken to Khonghampat and Lamban to see the successful cultivation being done there.
