Imphal, December 07 2018:
The Imphal Municipal Corporation has asked all pet dog owners residing within Imphal municipal area to restrain their dogs within the confines of their homes and don't let dogs go astray.
A notice issued today by IMC Municipal Commissioner K Chandrakumar further informed that any (owned) dog found going astray in streets shall be caught and appropriate actions would be taken up against its owner as per law.
It further asked all dog owners to collar their dogs.
Notably, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has established that most of the attacks on domestic animals reported from different parts of the State were carried out by unchained dogs even though the 'predators' were Shanthihotpi (Ferret Badger) and Keijenglang (Leopard Cat) in two separate cases.
Meanwhile, one Shanthihotpi was found dead at Top Makha Leikai, Imphal East today.
Forest Department has collected the carcass.
On the other hand, a flying squirrel (Yangkok Sha) was caught by people from near Manipur Police Training College this evening.
The animal has been handed over to Forest Department even as a team of WII scientists rushed to the spot to rescue the flying squirrel.
It was later released in the wild.
