Grenades seized

A joint team of Imphal district police commandos and troops of 16 Assam Rifles have seized 17 Chinese hand grenades and four demand notes from two PREPAK cadres yesterday.
Speaking to reporters at his office chamber today, Imphal East Additional SP (Ops) Moirangthem Rajen Singh said, acting on an information, Imphal East district police commandos led by Commando OC P Achouba conducted a frisking drive in collaboration with soldiers of 16 AR (Yaingangpokpi Post) at Yumnam Khunou Eshingthembi crossing yesterday afternoon.
At around 2 pm, a man who came on a Honda Pleasure scooter (MN-01D/0387) from Khundrakpam side was detained on suspicion.
On checking the tool box of his scooter, five hand grenades covered with carbon papers and wrapped with cello tape were found.

The man Gurumayum Padmakumar Sharma alias Nimai (42) s/o late Ibotombi of Bamon Leikai Brahmapur Thangapat Mapal, at present residing at Mahaballi Mamang, Palace Compound was immediately arrested for questioning, M Rajen said.
On questioning, it was revealed that Padmakumar had given four demand notes of PREPAK to his accomplice Brahmacharimayum Kiran Sharma alias Ingocha (37) s/o late Manglem of Mahaballi Mamang Palace Compound for distribution to different persons.
Without any delay, the security team rushed to Padmakumar's present house and seized 12 other Chinese hand grenades concealed in a carton box, Rajen said.
Later, the team raided Kiran's house and seized four demand notes signed by self styled finance secretary of PREPAK, P Chinglen Meitei.
Padmakumar and Kiran have been handed over to Heingang Police Station for further investigation, the Additional SP said.
