Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar has once again appealed to the protesting university community to restore normalcy in Manipur University.
Speaking to media persons at his office at the Secretariat today, Joykumar appealed to MUSU, MUTA and MUSA to restore normalcy and maintain academic atmosphere of the university in the interest of the people, specially the student community.
He claimed that the State Government does not view the university issue lightly and the Government has been working tirelessly to fulfill the demands of the university community by taking up every possible steps including constitution of a High Power Committee.
Now AP Pandey has been given leave and the Fact Finding Committee is also being led by a retired Justice, Joykumar added.
The Dy CM claimed that the State Government is not biased and clarified that the Government only wants the Fact Finding Committee to perform its job and at the same time ease the difficulties faced by thousands of students.
If the report of the Fact Finding Committee is not acceptable, it can be discussed/scrutinised later again, he added.
On the other hand, the Dy CM also appealed to ANSAM, ATSUM and KSO, to reconsider the stand to launch a stir from tomorrow if the university does not open by then.
Fighting and hurling insults at one another will not work, he added.
Replying to a query, Joykumar claimed that the State Government is trying to come to an agreement with the MU community at the earliest.
Education Minister Th Radheshyam, who was also present at the meet, said that there are 93 Government, Government aided and private colleges under Manipur University.
There are a total of 82,000 under graduate students and out of these said students, around 27,000 students who have appeared the final semester exams face an uncertain future due to the university issue.
He continued that to save the career and future of these students, the university crisis needs to be brought to a close and for FEGOCTA, AMCTA as well as other stakeholders to work together and announce the final semester examination results at the earliest.
