Imphal, August 04 2018:
Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) Adult Education councillor M Khagemba was picked up by Singjamei police from a rent house at Kyamgei Awang Leikai at around 12.30 am today.
According to a source, Khagemba was later released today afternoon although it is unclear whether the police have registered an FIR against him or not.
It may be mentioned that the protest by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA demanding the removal of Manipur University VC AP Pandey has crossed more than 60 days.
With MUSU announcing to intensify the protest, its volunteers have been vandalising various State and Central Government sign-boards and hoardings in and around the university campus as well as various other locations by writing 'Remove VC Pandey, Save Manipur University' on top of the signboards and hoardings.
On the other hand, after State police dismantled and destroyed the shed utilised by MUTA and teachers for the relay hunger strike in front of the university main entrance gate, the venue for the the relay hunger strike has been shifted to the waiting shed near traffic island inside the university campus.
Speaking to media persons, the teachers reiterated their stand that the protest will continue until Pandey is removed from his post.
The teachers also condemned the order issued by the Registrar in-charge alleging that the order is just giving leave to Pandey and is not a concrete action against him.
It may be mentioned that as per an order issued by Imphal West DC, section 144 CrPC has been imposed in and around MU campus.
As a result, a proposed solidarity rally was also cancelled yesterday.
