Imphal, January 14, 2011:
The KCP (Maoists) has called a 24 hours general strike in the State with effect from 5 pm of January 25 till 5 pm of January 26. The Indian Republic Day celebration is a sham exercise aimed at legitimising imperialism, the outfit alleged in a press release issued by its publicity and propaganda secretary W Malemnganba Meitei.
Whereas the people of the North East are being put under suppression by military Acts like the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, the movement of the working mass of mainland India aimed at overthrowing the imperialist regime are being subjugated by conducting military operations like the Green Hunt, the outfit alleged.
Even though India is claiming to be the largest democracy in the world, many of its own citizens are being denied the freedom of speech and this is testified by the imprisonment of Dr Binayak Sen, Comrade Ashit and many Dalit leaders.
In Manipur too, Oja Sagolsem Indramani and youth leader Sapamcha Kangleipal were imprisoned for alleged acts of sedition.
Notwithstanding deployment of seven lakh security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, the Government of India is unable to suppress the Kashmiri people's aspiration for liberation.
The recent statement of noted writer Arundhati Roy in support of the liberation movement of Kashmiri people was a clear indication of the impending downfall of Indian imperialism, it alleged.
Asserting that it meaningless for the people of Manipur to participate in the Indian Republic Day celebration, the outfit called upon the people not to participate in the Republic Day celebrations and also not mislead school/college students.
It also appealed to all NCC cadets not to participated in the Republic Day celebrations.
