Winter Shumang Lila festival begins today

The seventh winter Shumang Lila festival 2010-11 of the Manipur State Shumang Lila Council will begin on Friday at the Iboyaima Shumang Lila Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The council�s secretary Sougrakpam Hemanta, addressing a press conference today, said 10 Shumang Lila groups are participating in the festival which will continue till January 24. Informing that there were some modifications in the rules of the council, he said that under the modified rules, no Shumang Lila group who do not participate in this winter festival will not be allowed to take part in the forthcoming annual Shumang Lila competition to be organised by the Manipur State Kala Akademi.
Further, no two Lilas even from different groups directed by one director will be allowed to take part in the competition.
The same rule is applicable to Lila scripts too.
Artistes are also prohibited from joining in two Lila groups.
Artistes will not be allowed to act for other groups without a transfer certificate from the earlier group.
With the rule now in force, the council decided to ban two artistes Hiyangthang Lukhoi and Dhaneshwor of Kamakhya Sangeet Mandal from participating in this year's festival, Hemanta said.
If any of the Lila group allow these two artistes to act in their Lilas, the group too will be banned from taking part in the Lila festival.
Hemanta further announced the list of the Lilas to be staged during the 10 day festival.
On the first day of the festival January 15, the Lila to be staged will be "Wrong No.2" of Mata Association, "Waroisin" of Tomthin Artistes' Union on January 16, "Nakentha-da Yening" of North Imphal Manipur Jatra Mandal on January 17, "Poloiduni Ngairiba" of Naharol Khongthang Artistes� Association on January 18, "Koklaroidaba Pipham" of Sangai Artistes� Association on January 19, "Pizza" of Peace Maker Artistes� Union on January 20, "Tamkhraba Ethak" of Dedicated World Artistes� Union on January 21, a Lila of Western Jatra Mandal on January 22, "General Amnesty" of Lamjingba Artistes� Union on January 23 and "Urirei Madhabee" of Sanaleibak Nachom Artistes� on the last day of the festival, January 24.
