Passenger carriers operating on the Imphal-Moreh route along the National Highway No 39 are likely to cease service following incidents of burning Tata Sumos in the past few days.
Transport operators are demanding clarification from those involved in the acts of arson within three days failing which all passenger carriers would cease service.
After unidentified persons torched a Tata Sumo (AS25B/3357) at near the Moreh Gate No 2 parking zone on December 2 at around 10.30 am another Tata sumo (MN03P/0778) was put on flame at an isolated spot in between Lokchao and Khongkham at around 10 am today.
In connection with the incidents, two separate meetings were held at the Hawa Mahal of Moreh police station which was attended by top civil and police officials including the Moreh SDC Th Ibohal, SDPO Rameshore, Assistant Commandant of 7 Bn Manipur Rifles Shyamkumar as well as representatives of Moreh-based civil society organisations such as All Community Development Organisation, Meetei Council Moreh and Hill Tribal Council.
In addition to vehemently condemning the acts of arson, the meeting also resolved on demanding clarification from those responsible for the incidents within three days.
Moreover, fervent appeal was made to abstain from such act in the future.
Meanwhile, the Moreh-Imphal Jeep and Tata Sumo Taxi Service welfare Association while strongly condemning the burning of vehicles asserted that all passenger carriers would cease service from December 6 onward in case clarification is not made by those involved in the incidents.
