Highlighting alleged discrepancies in the functioning of various Government departments in Ukhrul district, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (Tangkhul Youth Council/TYC) have lamented the discrimination meted out to the people and prolonged negligence of the overall development of the hill district by
the Govt.In a joint statement, TKS president Yangmi Khapai and TYC president Ningkhan Shangh Shimray lamented that the Government has failed to initiate any action over the demand for reinstating HS Verypam, who has been appointed as Chief Engineer of PHED but has been kept attached as OSD to Commissioner (PHE) in his parent department.
This is nothing by a blatant case of racial discrimination on the part of the Congress-led SPF Government, the joint statement alleged.
The joint statement further lamented that the lone Ukhrul District Hospital has been running understaffed for the last many years with only 12 doctors of the required 32 and 14 nurses of the required 77 .
The district hospital also does not have mandatory equipments like ultrasound, X-ray machine and first aid kits while the CD4 count machine has been lying non-functional to due non-availability of a technician, the joint statement pointed.
The Government is also yet to give its response to the demand for opening centres in connection with conducting Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in all the hill districts of the State, the joint statement pointed out, adding that many basic utility services/departments including District Transport office, Minor Irrigation, PWD, ITI, etc are also not available in Ukhrul district.
All these issues need to be looked upon on priority basis as the people in the district have been reeling under lot of hardships due to absence of these services, the joint statement observed, while warning of taking recourse to various democratic agitations if the Government fails to initiate positive action at the earliest possible.
