Death of pregnant woman : Claims and counter claims continue
Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, September 16 2013:
Strongly reacting to the clarification regarding the death of a pregnant woman at RIMS on September 13 as published in today's edition, family and local people of the deceased woman have raised a number of counter questions.
Citing Dr Usharani's clarification that the fatal mistake happened in the anaesthesia room before reaching the operation theatre, the enraged people asked as to who would be held accountable even if the fatal mistake happened in the anaesthesia room.
They questioned under whose prescription the patient was administered anaesthesia.
Again quoting Dr Usharani that the woman was not her patient, they asked if it was true that Dr Jitendra left the woman under Dr Usharani's care.
Saying that the patient party is yet to get clear answers to these questions, they questioned the authenticity of the clarification published in the September 16 issue of this paper.
The matter would have some merits for consideration had the clarification been made by Dr Usharani, not The Sangai Express.
They also made it clear that they are not seeking any compensation but justice and facts so that such unfortunate incidents do not happen to any other person in future.
In case, Dr Usharani and Dr Jitendra cannot fix responsibility for the controversial death, RIMS authority ought to take responsibility for the said incident.
One cannot remain scot free after killing a person because there is no proof or there is not enough evidence.
They also appealed to all the people and civil society organisations to help the people of Lamsang bring justice and ensure that the two doctors are taken to task.
