Source: The Sangai Express / Athokpam Jiten

Imphal, December 31 2011: The year 2011 may well have entered the record books for witnessing comparatively lesser number of armed encounters between security forces and militants and also for registering highest cases of surrender by militant cadres.

Apart from the conflict situation, armed encounters between security forces and militants, bomb blasts, grenade attacks related with extortion and abduction for ransom, 2011 witnessed the longest days of economic blockade.

Compared to 2010's record of 70, only 11 UG cadres were killed in reported encounters with security forces in 2011 .

Altogether 240 UG cadres including Assam-based DHD (J) cadres surrendered to the Government during the year.

The Sangai Express presents a chronology of the major events of gun violence that took place in Manipur this year.
