Imphal, July 05 2026:
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University organised a one-day panel discussion on "Manipur: Contested Diversity, Violence and Development" at the Department of Anthropology today.
Prof Rajkumar Bhubon, Director of Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) and HoD, Chemistry; Dr Thiyam Bharat, Convenor, Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP); and Prof L Santosh, Coordinator, NSS Cell, MU attended as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Dr Bharat said the panel aimed at academic deliberation on diversity, violence and development in Manipur.
He noted that while 'Unity in Diversity' should bring progress in a multi-ethnic State, in Manipur diversity has often led to violence.
He added that identity politics among communities has hindered development and caused public suffering.
The discussion, held in two sessions, sought to deeply analyze these issues and suggest solutions.
