In protest against the conduct of the unidentified armed persons who opened fire and tried to abduct EE of IFCD Thoubal Division Laithangbam Yaiskul at his own Liwa Lambi Oinam Leikai residence on the night of January 22, people of the area today staged a Wakat Meepham at Liwa Lambi Oinam Leikai today.
According to reports, Executive Engineer Yaiskul is currently under suspension from service.
On the other hand, Wangkhei Angom Leikai Women's Welfare Association organised a Wakat Meepham a today in protest against the January 20 incident of gun fighting among some police commandos in civil cloths at the locality in the morning of January 20 which left one civilian wounded.
Placards with slogans like 'we condemn gun-fight in residential area', 'Don't resort to firing in public places', etc were seen being used during the protest demonstration.
According to family members of Th Thambou (75) who was wounded in the gun-fight and is still undergoing treatment at RIMS, on that fateful day, Thambou had gone out to inquire about Old Age Pension.
70-year old Ibenu, who participated in the protest session today, observed that wounding an aged person who should be allowed to live in peace and evoking the name of God in such despicable gun-fight is condemnable.
Another 75-year old woman protestor recalled that when the gun-fighting of the commandos broke out, her grand-children have just set out for their schools and college after the morning meal.
On hearing the sound of gun-firing everyone in the family were frightened
and worried.
But fortunately, nothing unto wards happened to any of her grand children.
She also fervently appealed to all concerned to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
