Imphal, November 07:
A workshop on the theme of Land Resource Management which would go on for two days has begun from today at the conference hall of Old Secretariat here.
The workshop is being organised under the aegis of Land Revenue Department of the State Government.
Deputy Commissioners of all the districts, staff and officials of the Revenue Department and representatives of NIC are participating in the workshop.
The first day of the workshop presided over by Principal Secretary (Revenue) P Saratchandra, was moderated by
Prof N Mohendro.
On the objective of the workshop, Saratchandra pointed out that apart from the fact that 90 percent of the land resources of the State are hilly area, absence of land record system in the hills and lack of database records in the valley cause lot of difficulties in planning of the available land resources.
He observed that even if the available land resource is limited, efforts are being made all over the world today for reclamation of swamps, deserts and other areas lying below sea level in view of the increase of human population, urbanisation and industrialisation.
Looking at this trend, the need for proper land resource management is also being felt in case of the State.
To manually update the existing land records of the State is a hard task.
So, to use technology for maintenance of a three-tier database land record system and make the people understand its importance is a challenge before all of us today, Saratchandra said.
In the morning session of the workshop, SIO of NIC Kh Rajen spoke on the topic of 'Understanding vision on computerisation of land records' and Sub-Registrar of Bishnupur Kh Lalmani Singh on 'Integration of registration system with land record management'.
Resource persons and experts would discuss the existing trend of using land in the hill area of Manipur and other related matters and adopt various recommendations during the workshop which would go on till tomorrow.
