Cabinet decides to hike wages

The State Cabinet has decided to hike wages of labourers working in 15 different types of scheduled employment.
A Cabinet meeting was held today with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair at the Chief Minister's Secretariat at 9 am today.
Talking about the Cabinet meeting, Government spokesman M Okendro conveyed that the State Cabinet unanimously agreed to hike wages under Minimum Wages Act 1948 .
Rates of wages currently applied are Rs 122.10 per day for unskilled labour, Rs 129.97 per day for semi-skilled labour and Rs 132.60 per day for skilled labour.
These rates were applied since February 2011 .
The Cabinet meeting held today resolved to hike the wages to Rs 225 per day for unskilled labour, Rs 248 for semi-skilled labour and Rs 273 for skilled labour.
An advisory board was constituted under Labour Department in 2014 to revise the wages given labourers.
The State Cabinet decided to hike the wages based on the recommendations of the advisory board, Okendro stated.
The 15 different types of employment for which the State Cabinet decided to hike wages included agriculture, construction, construction of roads and bridges, public motor transport, shops and establishments, dam construction and irrigation works, water supply, sanitation, drainage, wood, bamboo and cane furniture.
The Cabinet meeting also agreed to convert the post of IPR Director to a professional post.
The meeting further decided to appoint 132 Junior System Assistants and 21 Watch Men cum Cleaning Assistant for Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) .
It also agreed to engage 27 staff on contract basis for a period of one year for proper implementation of Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya-Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) under Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Okendro added.
