Imphal, November 15 2016:
Stating that the media houses in Manipur are facing severe inconveniences after the Government decided to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the All Manipur Newspaper Publishers' Association has today stated that it will not be in a position to accept the demonetised notes any longer and urged the distributors/hawkers to deposit only the legal tenders.
In a statement, the publishers said that since media houses have not been included among the groups where the demonetised notes can still be used till November 24 such as Government hospitals, milk booths, air ticketing, pharmacy, electricity bill, consumer co-operative stores, buying gas cylinders, paying utilitiy bills, Government milk booths, monuments maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, crematorium or burial grounds, the demonetised notes can no longer be accepted from the distributors/hawkers.
A situation may come when distributors/hawkers will say that they are not in a position to bring the smaller denomination notes and as such the danger of the publishing houses stopping publication is real, said the statement.
The statement urged the authority concerned to include the media in the list of those where the demonetised notes can still be used.
