The review meeting was attended by Northern Frontier Railways (NFR) General Manager, Chief Engineer, the Chief Secretary, PWD officials and DCs of Senapati , Imphal West and Tamenglong , informed an official source.
The NFR officials said that the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway track would be constructed like a metro track or in the line of European models.
They maintained that the railway project has been making good progress on account of healthy cooperation received from the people of Tamenglong district.
The Chief Minister instructed the Tamenglong DC to hand over land required for laying railway track through Tamenglong district to the Northern Frontier Railways as soon as possible, added the source.
The Chief Minister also made similar instructions to the DCs of Imphal West and Senapati districts.
While appreciating that the security provided by the State Government is adequate for execution of the railway project between Jiribam and Tupul, the NFR officials asked the State Government to increase the number of security forces for execution of the same project between Tupul and Imphal.
Tupul-Imphal section would feature in the country’s longest railway tunnel and a bridge at the height of 141 metres which would be the highest railway bridge in the world after Bulgaria, added the official while spekaing to The Sangai Express.
