Speaking to media persons at a sideline of the protest, one Shyamchandra Ningthoujam, said AMSU volunteers pelted stones to five hostellers of DM College of Commerce outside DM Science gate yesterday night.
They also retaliated by pelting stones towards the AMSU volunteers.
Later that night, AMSU volunteers barged into the DM College of Commerce hostel and thrashed some of the students.
In the meantime, AMSU secretary general Manjit Sarangthem has clarified that non of their volunteers assaulted any hostellers.
AMSU finance secretary Johnson in a press meet held at AMSU headquarters today said some miscreants pelted stones at AMSU office inside the DM campus yesterday night.
AMSU volunteers caught the miscreants outside DM Science gate who turned out to be hostellers of the DM Commerce and MOBC hostels.
“The volunteers left them after giving a stern warning and asking them to report at the AMSU office the following morning,” Johnson said.
Later that night, Sanjoykanta, a hosteller of DM Commerce, informed DESAM about the situation.
DESAM education secretary Paikhomba along with health secretary Devdutta arrived at the Hostel a while later and allegedly threatened the hostellers with knives.
The situation calmed after a team of Imphal police arrived at the hostel.
A complaint was also lodged against the two DESAM volunteers, Johnson said.
He expressed disappointment that the students involved in the incident yesterday, chose to stage a protest instead of coming to the union’s office and sorting out the matter.
AMSU general secretary Manjit has demanded an apology from all the five students involved in the incident yesterday.
He has also sought an apology from Mayanglambam Kanglei Meitei for charging the union with assault and demanding that the union shift their office from the campus.
Three out of the five miscreants apologised to AMSU at the press meet today.
Meanwhile, hostel warden Ratan has said that no students are allowed outside the hostel gate after 9 pm .
