World Blood Donor Day held

Like in parts of the globe Manipur joined world Blood Donor Day observance along with a rally to create awareness and felicitation of multiple-time blood donors.
While various NGOs and student organisations joined in the observance different places, Manipur State AIDS Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur jointly hosted the event at GP Women's College.
As chief guest of the observance, Commission (Cooperation) P Vaiphei said donating blood is one of the most noble acts as sufficient availability of blood can save many lives.
Pointing out that the global event is being held to make all aware on the importance of donating blood, the Commissioner urged all sections of the society to donate blood atleast twice a year.
Appreciating participation and initiative by NGOs and student organisations to encourage donation of blood on a regular basis, P Vaiphei also urged noble-hearted individuals to contribute their mite in replenishing the blood stock of hospitals.
Allaying apprehension of some people that donating blood affects one's health, he conveyed that every healthy person can donate blood without any fear for medical personnel always ensure that proper health check of the donor is carried out prior to the donation for both safety of the donor and the recipient.
Besides GP Women college Principal Y chandrasakhi Devi, MACS Project Director Dr Shailesh kumar Chourasia, RIMS Director Dr S Sekharjit Singh and JNIMS Medical Superintendent Dr W Gopimohon Singh also attended the event.
