Imphal, August 05 2018:
The MU Students' Parents Committee has appealed to the Manipur University community to suspend the more than two months old shut down of the university in the interest of students.
It is impossible for Manipur University and DM University to absorb all the graduated students for PG courses.
Moreover, if students of the State wish to pursue PG courses in subjects/fields which are not opened at MU or DM University, they must go outside the State.
But the prolonged strike by MU community has been posing serious hurdles to the students in their further studies, said a press release issued by the committee's convenor W Joykumar.
Now admission process of most universities located outside the State has been closed and some universities have already commenced new sessions.
But results of Graduate exams conducted by Manipur University have not been declared yet on account of the prolonged strike.
If the shut down continues any longer, a large number of students would certainly lose one crucial academic year, it pointed out and appealed to the MU community to suspend the shut down for some time.
Parents were also aggrieved when the authority concerned failed to take up befitting action even after two months of agitation against VC Prof AP Pandey.
Though it is late, a fact finding committee has been constituted and Prof Pandey has been granted leave.
"Let the enquiry committee decide whether Prof Pandey should be dismissed or not", said the parents' committee.
Yet, it added that ongoing agitation may be resumed or other options can be explored in case the MU community is not satisfied with the enquiry report.
For the moment, it is crucial to suspend the shut down in the interest of students, it said.
Saying that only MU community can save the career of thousands of students, the committee conveyed that prolonged closure of MU and colleges have demoralised a great number of students.
It also appealed to the authority concerned to work out a solution and get the strike withdrawn or suspended in order to save the career of students.
It further appealed to the State Government to write to the Central Government to make arrangements for admission of students from Manipur in universities located in other States although it is late.
