Imphal, June 25:
An explosive planted near Don Bosco School located at the junction of Phayeng and Kangchup went off at about 4.45 am today in which two persons suspected to be involved in planting the bombs were injured.
According to information received from the site, the bomb exploded when a patrol party of the 16 Assam Rifles posted at Kangchup Water Supply plant had reached Lairenkabi.
The blast site was on the right side of the road from Imphal near the Don Bosco School.
Some local people who saw the bomb went off said that two youths with their faces and hands covered up in a manner suggesting injuries ran towards the Phayeng Khunou paddy fields moments after the blast.
It looked the bomb exploded seconds after they planted it at the site.
Asa result of the explosion, a sizeable area was dug out while plants and trees growing nearby were all burnt up besides snapping two HT wires.
After a while a troop of Assam Rifles came there and inspected the site.
Police also arrived later.
Some shrapnels and a few pieces of wire were recovered from the site.
Meanwhile, the local people have decried the act of planting and setting off explosives near civilian areas, particularly near a school which could have resulted in huge casualties.
