The Joint Action Committee against Umathel Killing has threatened of a strong agitation if the Government fails to take actions against the BSF personnel who were involved in the killing of four persons in Umathel area in Thoubal district on the adjoining night of August 16 and 17.The demands were made by the JAC in a memoranda submitted to the State Governor today.
Similar memorandum has also been submitted to the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
In the memorandum, the committee alleged that he four persons Rashali Kumar Nepali (28), Khular Prakash Lamkang (20), Mutum Bekoma (24) and Yengkhom Lukhoi (28) were civilians who were struggling to make a living.
It criticized the BSF of branding the persons as militants.
The memorandum also stated that the Waikhong police OC and SP Thoubal declined to accept the FIR complaints lodged on behalf of the victims by family members.
Other demands of the JAC include payment of ex-gratia to the families of the deceased, holding of judicial inquiry into the incident.
Later talking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, the JAC representatives and family members said that the incident occurred when the four persons were returning after fetching liquor from Umathel side.
The JAC convenor said that they will take up agitation if the Government fails to act within the month of August.
