Despite the crippling economic blockade on the highways, the Good and Civil supply director, A Ibomcha said that there is enough stock of food grains particularly rice in all the downs of the FCSD.
He gives this assurance while speaking to reporters today at this office chamber at Sangaiprou.
�There is no question of pressing the alarm bell for lack of rice in the face of the ongoing economic blockade on NH-39 as there is enough stock in the godowns,� the officer assured.
As on August 20 the stock position at he Sangaiprou godown was 8760 metric tonnes, said Ibocha and added that the position was recorded after the food grains for other districts had been lifted.
Asked about the escalating price of rice in the hill districts, the Director dismissed it as rumours and added that all the DCs had intimated abut 45 days back that there is no scarcity of rice and no hike in price of rice.
The Director also disclosed that there is enough stock of sugar in the godowns.
If the economic blockade continues for days the State can always transport rice form Myanmar and the people can also fall back on the produce of the State, he said.
On the current stock position of rice in the FCI godown, a highly placed source said that he stock position in the godowns at Koirengei and Sangaiprou is 1760 metric tones while the stock position at the Ukhrul godown is 2165 metric tones.
