The BJP Kisan Morcha, Manipur Pradesh has apprised the Union Home Minister LK Advani of the recent drought like situation in the State and requested to send a high power committee to assess the situation immediately.
In a memorandum sent today, the morcha suggested several measures to be taken up and said that the paddy crops are withering fast due to the acute shortage of rainfall and expressed apprehension that there will be failure of crops this year in the State.
Measures suggested by the morcha include pumping of water, from available source and making temporary dams, digging of tube wells and completion of irrigation projects.
Meanwhile, United Clubs Organization, Patsoi has stated that most of the fields in Patsoi constituency have developed cracks and urged the authority concerned to provide assistance to the affected farmers.
The Rural Progressive Association Sagoltongba Makha Leikai has also sought the attention of the authorities to the condition of the fields in the area.
Khonghampat Youth Club said that there is fear of crop failure in the fields of Khonghampat, Khamral, Loitang, Pheidinga, Tendongyan and Khurkhul.
It has appealed to the concerned to complete the RLI project in Khonghampt.
More than 200 paris of paddy fields have been affected in Chajing Karam and adjoining areas, according to the Mingle Club, Chajing Awang Leikai.
Meanwhile, Md A Latif, councillor, Lilong (Th) Nagar Panchayat ward no 2 said that fields covered by the Imphal Barrage and the Turel Ahanbi were facing drought.
