Imphal, July 21 2013:
Apart from organising awareness programmes for vendors of Khwairamband Keithel in order to keep the market places neat and clean, the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) and the Kanglei Economic Development Organisation (KEDO) today cleaned BT Flyover.
Speaking to media persons at BT Flyover, IMC's Sanitary Public Health Committee chairman Ksh Umesh said that notwithstanding all the efforts of IMC to keep Imphal city neat and clean, the same objective cannot be realised so far due to lack of awareness on the part of the public.
He appealed to all shopkeepers and vendors of Khwairamband Keithel to dispose garbage and waste material at proper places.
Even though IMC routinely picks up the garbages, waste materials are disposed right in the middle of the roads.
Under a new initiative, dust-bins would be installed in the Nupi Keithels and the dust-bins would be emptied every three hours, Umesh said.
He further appealed to shopkeepers not to pile up merchandise on footpaths and transform shops into variety stores.
Shops should sell only the goods mentioned while obtaining licences.
