Troops of 44 Assam Rifles have killed vice chief of the proscribed outfit PULF (Farooq faction) identified as Amir Khan in retaliating firing at Lai Ching Minao in Chandel district today.
According to a statement issued by PRO of Assam Rifles, based on specific information about the presence of a top militant of PULF in the area, troops of 44 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation led by its Commandant in the area of Lai Ching Minao in Chandel district.
Multiple ambushes were laid to ensure militants are not escape and at around 5.30 pm two persons with weapon were spotted moving toward the Lai Ching Minao from Soura village side.
On being challenged, the militants opened fire on the troops and attempted to flee.
In the retaliatory firing one militant was killed while the second militant managed to escape.
Later on, the slain militant was identified as Amir Khan, the vice chief of PULF (Farooq faction), the PRO said, adding that one AK-56 rifle with one magazine and 11 live rounds of ammunition have been recovered .
The PRO while talking to The Sangai Express said that Amir Khan was a founder member of PULF and added that he was involved in the killing of 25 civilians.
He was also involved in the ambush launched against a convoy of the Assam Rifles about two and half years back.
