Imphal, January 05:
A number of people were injured and many houses and vehicles damaged when two rival groups clashed at Churachandpur town today.
The underground outfit ZRA had to step in and impose an indefinite curfew to bring the situation under control.
Trouble started when one group attacked the Evangelical Organization Central Church (EOC) located at Hill Town in Churachandpur today at about 6.30 pm and ransacked the quarters of the Pastor destroying furniture and other household goods.
Police rushed to the spot to control the situation, but the attackers managed to escape under cover of darkness.
There was a lull for about two hours but then again at about 8 pm trouble broke out when the two rival groups engaged in a clash that lasted for about one hour.
Many were injured and there were blood stains all over the place surrounding the Church.
The clash was brought under control only when additional police force were rushed to the site.
The Church has been at the centre of a storm for the last couple of years as two rival groups, the EOC (ECCI) and EOC (Presbyterian) are laying claim over the Church building and the campus.
The matter is presently in the Court.
