Imphal, July 24 2016:
BJP
Manipur Pradesh has raised
strong suspicion about
forfeiture of six months'
subsidised rice entitled to the
people of Keishamthong
Assembly segment in the name
of making due preparations for
implementing National Food
Security Act (NFSA) in the
State.
Speaking to media persons
at his Kwakeithel residence
today, BJP Manipur Pradesh
spokesman RK Shivachandra
said that before NFSA was
launched in the State, people
of Keishamthong AC were
not getting subsidised rice
even though the allocations
for the months of January,
February and March were
lifted from godowns.
People are still not getting
subsidised rice for the last
three months even after
NFSA was launched.
While the beneficiaries
were kept bewitched with the
assurance of providing 5 Kgs
of rice every month to each
member of every household
at Rs 3 per Kg, rice alloca-
tions for the months of
January, February and March
have disappeared,
Shivachandra said.
People's suspicion has
been aroused all the more as
distribution of rice under
NFSA has started only now
while conveniently leaving
out the allocations for the
months of April, May and
June, he continued.
Monthly rice allocation
entitled to the State under
NFSA is 1.51 lakh tonnes.
Its monetary value is quite
huge and it is quite natural
for the people to be inquisi-
tive about the rice allocations for the last three months.
"I don't like to comment much regarding other Assembly
segments but for Keishamthong AC, people have not been
receiving subsidised rice for six months", Shivachandra said.
The MLA of Keishamthong AC should come out with a
convincing clarification on the matter, he added.
He also appealed to the people of Keishamthong AC not
to remain silent on the matter.
Clarifying that he has no personal enmity with the incum-
bent MLA, Shivachandra pledged that he would fight on
behalf of the poor masses until justice is done.
