Imphal, July 24 2016:
Even as
the Works Minister and PWD
highway division officials
inspected the poor road
condition of NH-2 last week,
which is considered the lifeline
of the State, the worsening and
unbearable road condition has
compelled the Surface
Transport Hills Area Drivers'
Welfare Union (STHADWU)
and Senapati District Drivers'
Welfare Union (SDDWU) to
repair the road on their own.
According to the secretar-
ies of the two associations, in
the face of the dilapidated
condition of NH-2, the
STHADWU and SDDWU
launched a joint effort to re-
pair the road between
Chakumei and Tadubi along
the NH-2 stretch.
The road above the
STHADWU office is deterio-
rating everyday due to
continuous monsoon down-
pour, they said.
It is very sad
to notice that due to the poor
road condition, three Imphal
bound trucks ferrying essen-
tial goods met unfortunate
accidents.
As such, the two organisa-
tions launched a one day road
repairing exercise in which A
Kapani, ADC member, 14
Tadubi DCC provided one
JCB Tata and stone pebbles
for the repairing work.
The organisations ac-
knowledged his contribution
for the betterment of society
in general and the drivers in
particular.
The two presidents of the
two organisations A Pukelo
Eshena of STHADWU and
D Lokho of SDDWU ap-
pealed the department
concerned to initiate necessary
measures to maintain the highway and avoid accidents.
The two organisa-
tions also noted that the repaired areas are marked as accident prone
areas on NH-2 .
