Imphal, March 17 2017:
Lainingthou Sanamahee Sana-pung has urged the Governor to reconsider her declaration of Sajibu Nongma Panba Chei-raoba as a full working day.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, general secretary of Laining-thou Sanamahee Sanapung, Angom Lonja Alepa said, "Laininghtou Sanamahee Sanapung strongly opposes the Governor's order on March 10 to declare Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba as a full working day.
We urge the Governor to retract her decision at the earliest taking into consideration the feelings of the people who worship Sanamahi.
"Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba is the biggest festival of the Meiteis where they give offerings in the form of lunch to ten gods including Lainingthou Leimarel and seek their blessings", he added.
He pointed out that the association has already sent memoranda to the Governor, Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary regarding the declarations of working day on such an important festival for the Meitei community.
He urged the Governor to show respect to such an important festival and to make alternative arrangements as in the case of demonetisation fiasco where the bank staff were asked to work overtime, if she made the declaration on the ground of financial year.
Angom Longja Alepa further demanded the Governor, Chief Minister and Chief Secretary to consider the request of the association and to provide a satisfactory response within five days and to declare Sajibu Cheiraoba as a holiday adding that if the authorities concerned fail to give any satisfactory result within the allotted time, the association would launch intense agitation.
