Imphal, April 12 2011:
Churachandpur District Students' Union (CDSU) has accused 46 Assam Rifles of battering its volunteers at Koite cemetery, some 2 km away from Churachandpur police station.
Speaking to NNN on the phone, president of CDSU, Hahau, alleged that "personnel of 46 Assam Rifles battered 10 volunteers of CDSU black and blue at about 12:15 pm on Monday on the charge of extorting money from vehicles on behalf of undergrounds" .
CDSU has boycotted the ongoing plus two exams of NIOS because the three schools that have been identified as centers of the exams have been found to be inadequately staffed with little or no infrastructures and other paraphernalia to cater to the exams, he stated.
"A chakka bandh had therefore been imposed on Tedim Road section of National Highway 150 yesterday, also because some exam centers were randomly changed" .
To affect the bandh, volunteers of CDSU were fanned out across three places along Tedim Road to persuade examinees not to sit for the exams, said Hahau.
While the volunteers were at the job in three places between Salbung and Koite villages, the patrolling personnel from 46 Assam Rifles personnel seized and led them to Koite cemetery where they were thrashed inhumanly, said the president of CDSU.
More than 30 examinees were reportedly intercepted and sent back yesterday after confiscating their admit cards.
The chakka bandh would be intensified tomorrow and on April 21 as well, informed the president of CDSU today.
